Town of Morris: How to Obtain a Temporary Pistol Permit

The Town of Morris issues the Temporary Pistol Permit to Carry Pistols or Revolvers, Pursuant to #29-28 and 29-28a of the Connecticut General Statutes. The temporary permit is valid for sixty (60) days from the date of issue. A temporary permit is required to obtain a State of Connecticut pistol permit. Town of Morris residents wishing to obtain the Temporary Pistol Permit must be at least 21 years of age.

Steps for Applying:

  • Fill out a Temporary Pistol Permit Application (DPS-799C). Application is also available in the First Selectman's office.
  • Please make appointment through First Selectman's office for pre-enrollment. Appointments are available Monday - Thursday 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. To schedule an appointment, call 860-567-7430 or email selectmen@townofmorrisct.com.
Payment of $88.25 is due at time of registration to the State of CT through pre-enrollment process (debit or credit card only).

  • Bring pre-registration code from online pre-registration to Troop L for fingerprints; First Selectman's will provide print out when registration is completed.
  • First Selectman's office will notify applicant of background check results.
  • Applicant will pick-up 60-day temporary pistol permit at First Selectman's office. The Town of Morris collects $50.00 (check or cash ONLY) for 60-day temporary pistol permit.
  • Temporary permit holders must apply for State Pistol Permits within sixty (60) days of receiving the temporary permit. The entire process must be repeated if not done within sixty (60) days. The fee for the State (valid for five years) is $70.00. Information for obtaining the State permit will be provided to the applicant when the temporary permit is issued.
